But crews across the state are already battling several major fires. Mandatory evacuation zones and evacuation warning zones are provided by local government agencies. Fire perimeter data are generally collected by a combination of aerial sensors and on-the-ground information. Most of the state is in either extreme drought or exceptional drought, raising concerns for the wildfires to come.The FireMappers wildfire map displayed above draws on multiple sources including satellite imagery and agency websites to provide updated information. Additional data is provided by NOAA’s Hazard Mapping System Fire and Smoke Product, which is human reviewed and sourced from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer and Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite satellites. The California Smoke Blog is a voluntary effort by city, county, state, tribal and/or federal agencies to coordinate and aggregate information for California communities affected by wildfire smoke. Hotspots are areas suspected to be on fire according to satellite imagery analysis.This data is provided by the National Interagency Fire Center. Fire perimeters are the latest known extent of where the fire has burned. The fire crossed seven counties and has been described as being larger than the state of Rhode Island.The data is provided by CalFire and the Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination. Fire origins mark the fire fighter's best guess of where the fire started.
